WEEK IN REVIEW
04/01 Thursday:
Meeting up with friends at Luce for the tail end of happy hour, dinner was picked up by the incomparable T-Rex, thank you sir. Next we all headed to Blonde Redhead who were playing with The Secret Machines which really had a good thing going aside from the half dozen floodlights that were pointed at the audience making it nearly impossible to watch the stage. Blonde Redhead followed and did not disappoint even though I was antsy from the assault on the senses by the opener.
04/02 Friday:
The MSP International Film Festival opening night party at Tonic. A techno club in uptown is sure to fail but eating free food while we waited sure was fun. On the whole the party was a success for the club and the Festival but I couldn't help but think that the normal weekend Escape and Tabu patrons just won't continue to go down there. Minor celebrities sighted.
04/05 Monday:
Riding my bike home I encountered the best free beer scam of all time. Twins opening night tailgating! Picking up an empty I walked around and talked baseball, Joe Mauer this, Torii Hunter that and was offered a couple of beers when it was clear that mine was empty. At the beginning of the Rebel Rebel David Bowie tribute show they played a phone conversation in which a director at the Cat Rescue center explained that they couldn't be affiliated with a show with "pússy" in the title. Hilarious politically correctness, it's a Cat center!! Any way it was one of those fun night where a ton of local musicians get together and play music they love to (mostly) their friends, with performers from 20 bands there were plenty of friends. It creates a casual and fun environment that I really look forward to. Look for the Susstones show next week and especially Voltage: Fashion Amplified coming in May to be similar. Afterward I convinced a dozen or so friends to meet me over at Luce for some dollar PBR's, which they soon ran out of.
04/06 Tuesday:
After a bout of forgetfulness and about 110 blocks on my BMX bike I arrived at Luce about 5 minutes late. After a couple or rounds at Luce we were denied entry to the Grandaddy show, standard clear channel guest list mishap. Fortunately happyhour at City Billiards last until eight. Three rounds there and things were starting to add up by the time we got to the Stereolab show, especially when a friend from the PULSE appeared with a couple of drink tickets. After that we zipped over to the T-Rock where I had a cocktail so vengefully poured I knew I wouldn't make it home if I drank it, so I called it a night and walked home.
