WEEK IN REVIEW

04/15 Thursday:
Stellastarr* may have been upstaged by the terrific set by (openers)The Killers. that being said it's about time the new "the band" revolution ended. In the past few weeks I've seen The Thrills, The Killers, The Wrens, The Stills, and The Sounds. Afterwards I watched Salsa night for a bit and enjoyed the 1/2 price drinks. Oddly at 1st Ave I'm known by someone else's signature drink.

04/16 Friday:
The Susstones Spring Soirée featured great sets by Faux Jean, Sideways, Astronaut Wife and the Melismatics. The show was a bit under attended, as it was a can't miss good time for cheap. As people finally started to arrive en mass as the Melismatics went on it seemed they played with added energy as if to say "This is what you've missed, you should have got here on time." Karaoke Supreme followed as we hung out with friends. Before I bolted for the Block E theater for the Midnight showing of Akira. They showed the new dub from the collector's edition DVD which was a little disappointing but finally seeing it on the big screen made it definitely worth it.

04/18 Sunday:
Howwastheshow.Dave and I hit Luce to wait for the Line at the Phantom Planet / Thrills show to shrink a little and it gave us some time to reflect on the madness that was the Pixies circus. Reflecting that I was going to wear a T-Shirt that said $500 on it. $500 being an absurd price, it dawned on us that I probably would have gotten it. The Fine Line was the center of the Music World for one day, crazy. The Thrills played a great show in front of a Crowd of WB fans waiting to see Phantom Planet. (Their song, California is the Theme to the show O.C.) The kids were polite and appreciated The Thrills textbook songwriting. I even commented that I heard Bruce Springsteen in the melodies and bravada. Phantom Planet alternated songs between their poppy first album and rocking second. I simply couldn't get over the fact that the lead singer looked EXACTLY like Aston Kucher. Perhaps a bit shorter, but other than that exactly. Afterwards I headed over to the Triple Rock for tater-tots, $2 beers and TV on the Radio. I ran into an old friend who had video taped the show. After asking the band if he could film it they told him "by all means." Pretty cool I'm looking forward to a copy. TV were loud and poorly mixed but they still definitely got their point across. The highlight was the guy on rhythm guitar who spoke absolutely unintelligibly into the mic and danced on his heels.

04/19-20 Monday/Tuesday:
I've been working feverishly on updates to the website for the big party next week. But of course I was able to get to the Trock Late Tuesday.

04/21 Wednesday:
The AIR show was sonic bliss. It was for the most part a "Sit Down" show, they tailored their set to the lush interior of The Orpheum, saving more upbeat tracks like Sexy Boy and a raucous rendition of La femme d'argent as the final encore. Afterwards we went over to the Turf in part for Dana Thompson and Ashtray Hearts but more for the surprise B-Day party of a local rock dignitary. The funny but was it wasn't a jump out from behind a door thing, rather people just slowly started showing up. I was on hand when she realized she was in the middle of a party. The all of a sudden asked "Wait, is this a party?" The coincidental arrival had finally become too much.
